Gunshot wound discovered at funeral home

GOLDSBORO, NC

That's after a funeral home discovered a bullet wound in a man's corpse.

Deputies said in a news release that 62-year-old James Clifton Best was found dead by a friend Tuesday morning who came to his house to go out to breakfast.

The friend arrived at the home at 2503 Hwy 111 South in Goldsboro around 9 a.m. and called 911.

Investigators first treated the case as a natural death, but when Best's body was examined at a funeral home, a small wound appearing to be a gunshot was found.

Deputies say there was not any sign of robbery or any other type of disturbance in the home.

The body is now at the Pitt County Medical Examiner's Office.
