Sources: Hidden camera found in SECU

RALEIGH

A lactating room is a place where mothers breastfeeding their children can go to use a breast pump in private.

Raleigh police have said Kai Cheng - a 32-year-old vice-president at the State Employees Credit Union - shot himself while they were conducting an investigation into complaints filed against him by female co-workers. They have not released any more information about the investigation.

But multiple sources who spoke with ABC11 on condition of anonymity said the investigation was opened after a hidden camera was discovered in the lactating room.

A search warrant released Thursday shows a camera disguised as an audio speaker along with video tape and computer memory devices were taken from Cheng's home by detectives.

Police said last week that they began their investigation of complaints against Cheng January 27, and he agreed to voluntarily accompany them to his home on Parr Vista Court between Umstead Park and Glenwood Avenue.

While in the home, police said Cheng got a personal handgun and went out into the backyard of the residence. They say he shot himself despite an attempt by an officer to use an electric shock from a Taser gun to stop him.

Cheng was taken to WakeMed where he died Saturday.

Police officials have not confirmed the hidden camera allegations and will only say they're continuing their investigation into both the suicide and the underlying case.

Cheng had worked his way up the corporate ladder at the State Employees Credit Union not long after graduating from NC State in 2002 according to his profile page on LinkedIn - a professional networking website.
