Wind pushes over power pole

DURHAM A power pole in front of where the university's School of Nursing building is being built was tilted toward the road, causing power lines to be lowered about four to six feet above the ground.

It appeared the pole slumped over because of the lack of dirt around it made it no match for the windy weather Friday afternoon.

Southbound traffic on NC-55 had to be diverted at East Lawson Street, while northbound traffic was diverted at South Alston Avenue.

About 44 customers were without electricity in Durham County because of the problem.
