Authorities shut down the southbound lanes while they put the fire out and cleaned up the road, leaving traffic backed up for miles.
No one was hurt, and the lanes were re-opened early Saturday morning.
According to police, the driver said the truck's axle locked up - causing the fire.
Among the vehicles damaged: a Range Rover, two Mercedes-Benz, and at least one BMW.
