Fires near Bragg may have been arson

FAYETTEVILLE On Monday afternoon, the City of Fayetteville Fire Department was called to two house fires and several woods fires near Yadkin and Horseshoe and Honeycutt and MacArthur roads.

Investigators initially said the incidents appeared to be unrelated, but were all exacerbated by windy and dry conditions.

However on Tuesday, authorities said that witnesses saw a subject leaving a house on Siesta Court off Yadkin Road as smoke bellowed out of it.

Later, a subject fitting the same description was seen attempting to start a fire at the Kangaroo Station on Owen Drive.

The subject was taken into custody and brought to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for a mental evaluation.

The fires are still under investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
