Police dog hurt in chase

WAKE FOREST

The K9 named Maverick was taken to the N.C. State University Veterinary School for emergency surgery. He was in critical but stable condition Friday.

Police said the dog was hurt when officers went to a residence on Taylor Street to serve 21-year-old Marcus Antwan Richardson with an absconder warrant.

Officers said Richardson fled and Maverick was injured when he was hit by a police car during the chase.

Now, Richardson is wanted for an alleged probation violation, failure to appear, felonious injury of a police animal, and resisting arrest.

The police department is offering a reward for information leading to Richardson’s arrest. Anyone with information concerning his whereabouts is urged to contact the Wake Forest Police Department at (919) 554-6150.
