Authorities tell ABC11 that when the ambulance arrived to help the patient, he began to fight with EMS workers. When they tried to subdue him, the man threatened the personnel, then got into the ambulance and drove away.
"He took control, stole the ambulance, drove it around the way, smashed into a bunch of cars," explained witness Ken Brooks.
The man hit at least four cars in the ambulance, severely damaging the vehicles. No one was injured.
The patient was later arrested and taken to the hospital. It is unclear what charges he may face.
Damage to the ambulance is estimated at $15,000.
