Demario Eugene Carr, 26, died as a result of his injuries after being rushed to the hospital following the shooting.
According to Durham Police, Carr was a passenger in a car that was on the freeway. They say they believe a person in another vehicle shot him while both cars were moving.
Investigators say the driver of the vehicle Carr was in then drove him to Durham Police headquarters, which was roped off as a crime scene.
It wasn't until they began interviewing the driver that they realized the Durham Freeway was the primary scene.
According to investigators, the incident is not random.
