According to Raleigh police, two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes then one of them crossed the median and hit an oncoming car. That car then hit the guardrail and swerved into traffic, hitting a fourth car.
Four people were taken to the hospital. Some of the injuries were described as life threatening.
Durham Crash
Over on I-40 near I-540, four of five eastbound lanes were closed after an accident involving a tractor-trailer.
Pictures from the scene showed a tanker flipped on its side.
It was late Tuesday afternoon before authorities were able to get the truck right side up and moved off the highway.
