Police say 24-year-old Michael Hunt, Jr. of Wilson was hit around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 42 west near Trace Drive.
He died from his injuries Friday.
According to authorities, Hunt left Wilson Medical Center Wednesday after undergoing a psychological evaluation. A Silver Alert was issued shortly after that.
Police say 82-year-old Justin Scott Jones was driving the car that hit Hunt.
The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
