Two teens killed in Durham shooting

DURHAM

Police say two people were found shot in the parking lot of the Lynn Haven Apartments at 919 Wadesboro Street just before 12:30 a.m.

One person died at the scene, while the second died a short time later at Duke Hospital.

Investigators later identified the victims as Caron Allen, 18, of Wadesboro Street and Jeremy Turner, 19, of Gerard Street.

Durham police spokesperson Kammie Michael said investigators believe the two men were acquaintances and the incident does not appear to be random.

Allen, who was a student at Riverside High School, lived with his family at the apartments where the shooting happened.

"He was quiet, didn't mess with nobody, a real laid back dude," Allen's friend Tavian Wiley said. "Bad things happen to good people all the time, but you never expect nothing like that to happen to him."

Friends say Turner was a stranger to the area.

Another resident, who didn't want to be identified, tells ABC11 that she heard two gunshots before police arrived.

Meanwhile, ABC11 has learned a dispute over a cell phone may have sparked the violence.
