Motorcyclist dead after chase

FAYETTEVILLE

The driver is identified as 29-yar-old Cedric R. Sheppard of Fayetteville.

Officials said the chase began when a Highway Patrol officer noticed the license plate on the bike was invalid and tried to stop it on U.S. 301 near the Robeson County line.

Officials said Sheppard did not stop and the Highway Patrol followed him at high speed towards Fayetteville.

The chase ended when the bike collided with a SUV at Cumberland Road and Hope Mills Road. Officials said the bike ran a red light just before impact.

The driver of the SUV, who had three children in the car, was not seriously hurt.
