Cary officer injured in motorcycle crash

CARY

It happened at the intersection of Highway 55 and Morrisville Carpenter Road. The motorcycle and a white pick-up truck collided just before 5 p.m.

State troopers say Officer Chad Penland was going west on N.C. 55, and attempted to make a left turn onto Indian Wells. He was attempting to pull a vehicle over, when he collided with the pick-up in the intersection, investigators said.

The driver of the pick-up truck, Benjamin Rainey, and his wife, were taken to WakeMed in Apex with minor injuries, and the officer was taken to Duke Hospital with injuries that are considered to be serious, but not life-threatening.

Traffic was diverted around the crash onto Carpenter Fire Station Road while crews removed the wreckage.
