It happened on I-40 east near the Durham Freeway and TW Alexander exit.
According to authorities, a Wake County sheriff's deputy was transporting a prisoner when they wrecked. At leat two other cars were invovled.
There is no word on injuries and no additional details are available.
All lanes of I-40 eastbound near Highway 147 were closed.
