President Dr. Stephen Scott said it is the largest individual cash donation in the history of the college.
The announcement was made at the dedication of the Harold and Shirley Brenner Learning Commons in the Bruce I. Howell Library Education Building on Wake Tech's Main Campus. A plaque honoring the late couple was also unveiled.
The couple learned about Wake Tech's role in the community from their niece, Mable Howell and her husband, former Wake Tech President Bruce I. Howell.
In the 2009-2010 academic year, more than 250 students continued their education with the help of a Foundation scholarship or emergency financial assistance loan.
Wake Technical Community College is North Carolina's second largest community college, serving more than 63,000 students annually.
