Accused couple seen at storage unit day Ackerson last seen

RALEIGH

ABC11 Eyewitness News has learned that Grant and Amanda Hayes were seen at a self storage facility on Glenwood Avenue the night of July 13th.

Authorities believe that visit was the same day Ackerson was seen alive visiting her two boys at the Hayes's apartment in north Raleigh.

The storage facility is just a few miles from the apartment. Investigators searched a storage unit the day after Ackerson's remains were found in Texas.

The Hayse's are charged with Ackerson's murder and were indicted early this week .

ABC11 learned that Grant and Amanda pulled up to the SecurCare Self Storage on July 13th in a SUV that was pulling a U-Haul trailer. We're told Amanda walked inside the office and asked for rope to tie down furniture.

Her demeanor was described as normal. Grant reportedly seemed agitated and was shouting at his wife from the SUV. He seemed annoyed by how long she was taking inside the office.

The couple was renting a storage unit, but it is unknown why they went there that night.

According to search warrants obtained Tuesday, authorities searched the unit because they believed it could have evidence related to the crime. The warrants also show no items were seized.

Police believe Ackerson was likely murdered and dismembered at the Hayes's apartment.
