When they arrived, they found Jeffrey Cotton, 21, of Weldon, shot in the upper back.
Cotton would later die from his injuries. The shooter is described as a black male, 6 feet-1 inch tall, with close-cut hair, a medium complexion, wearing a red "Aeropostale" tee-shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at (252) 583-1911.
