Police: Man stole in front of officer

FAYETTEVILLE, NC

Thirty-five year old Kendrick Dion McArthur is accused of stealing from a parked car right in front of a police officer.

A spokesperson with the Fayetteville Police Department said officers were in the parking lot of the Walmart on Ramsey Street investigating a stolen car report when they saw McArthur open the door of a Honda Accord and take personal items from the vehicle.

"While the victim made the job easier for McArthur by leaving the vehicle unlocked, the Fayetteville Police Department would like to thank McArthur for making the job easier for police officers by committing the crime in plain view of an officer and the two marked patrol cars parked a short distance away," said the spokesperson in a news release.

Police said McArthur was also in possession of items from two other thefts.

He's charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, two counts of felony larceny and two counts of possession of stolen goods.

He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
