Voters approve higher taxes in Durham

Voters in the city and county of Durham approved two tax proposals Tuesday.

One is a quarter-cent sales tax, which will be used for to replace $6 million in federal stimulus money for Durham public schools and fund scholarships to Durham Tech.

The other is a half-cent sales tax, which will go toward more bus service and the county's section of a light rail line.
