Elementary school teacher convicted of sex crimes

A Raleigh elementary school is asking parents to consider asking their child some tough questions after a former Physical Education teacher was convicted of child sex crimes.

John Skatrud taught at Yates Mill Elementary School between 2008 and 2010.

The 43-year-old is now in jail after pleading guilty to indecent liberties and sexual exploitation charges.

The convictions stem from inappropriate photos and touching involving Skatrud and two 8-year-old girls.

The school sent a letter home to parents Wednesday that said in part, "There may be a limited number of additional students who were inappropriately photographed.."

The letter went on to tell parents to carefully consider whether they should discuss it with their children in an attempt to determine whether their children may have been photographed.
