High schoolers spot gun inside student's car

LOUISBURG

Around 9 a.m., school officials questioned the student as police searched the teen's car.

Authorities found an unloaded .22 caliber revolver handgun in the vehicle, but no ammunition.

School officials said at no time was there a safety threat, because the gun was unloaded. They also said it appeared the student was not attempting to hurt anyone.

However, the student was escorted off the school's campus. Their name has not been released.

A letter has been sent home with all students to let parents know about the incident.

An investigation is ongoing at this time. The Louisburg Police Department currently has the handgun in their possession.
