Jason Young team may have new evidence

RALEIGH

Young is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his pregnant wife, Michelle. She was found beaten to death in their home in Nov. 2006.

His defense team asked the law firm that handled a civil wrongful death lawsuit against Young to turn over any documents that might be favorable in his defense.

"What they investigated, anything they looked at, any conversations they had with anyone connected with the investigation of the case or who could potentially be a witness in this case," Young's attorney Mike Klinkosum said.

The judge ordered the Michaels and Michaels Law Firm to review their documents and to turn over anything they feel could prove Young is not guilty. The judge will then review the evidence and determine what can be used in Young's retrial.

Young's first murder trial ended in a mistrial in June after a jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.

The retrial is scheduled to begin Jan. 17.
