Funeral announced for Raleigh firefighter

RALEIGH

Friends and family will gather Wed., Dec. 28 to remember Capt. Jonathan "Scott" Nipper.

Nipper was killed last Wednesday in a car accident in Granville County. Officials say the 43-year-old was killed when his car crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 15 near Dickson Road just after 2 p.m.

Nipper's 10-year-old daughter, Gracie, was also seriously injured in the crash. She was taken to Duke Hospital where she has undergone multiple surgeries since the accident.

Nipper's visitation is scheduled to take place at Providence Baptist Church, on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, from noon until 2 p.m. A graveside service and burial will immediately follow the visitation at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Nipper worked at Fire Station No. 1 on Dawson Street in downtown Raleigh. The Creedmoor resident joined the department in 1996.

In addition to Gracie, Nipper is survived by a wife, Amy, and a 17-year-old son, Cody.
