A new stand-alone emergency department opens Monday near the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and T.W. Alexander Drive. It's part of the new WakeMed Brier Creek Healthplex.
In addition to the around the clock ER, the new facility also offers diagnostic imaging and lab services, which are linked to the main hospital's level one trauma center.
"People that need the care here would come here," said Ambulatory Services Director Dr. Oral Wise. "If they need a higher level of care, we have out-mobile care services that are in place. They would be dispatched here, and they would take the patient to the facility of their choosing."
A public open house of the new facility will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 4 to 7 p.m.
The WakeMed Brier Creek Healthplex emergency department will initially employ more than 70 full time workers.
