Female jogger attacked in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

Investigators say they were notified of the incident on Saturday, but it happened around 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The victim said she was running in the 6500 block of Cliffdale when a man wearing camouflage pants tried to assault her. The woman was able to fight off her attacker and run away.

Officials said the attack was an isolated incident, and that the jogger did the right thing running away.

"The most important thing is to get out of there, to get to a safe location, and that's exactly what she did," said Gavin MacRoberts, with the Fayetteville Police Department. "That's the best thing she could have done."

Police offered the following safety tips for anyone out walking or running on streets or jogging paths. They said to always walk or jog in pairs, jog in a familiar public areas, jog only during the day, and always carry a cell phone.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at (910) 433-1856 or CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
