DNC makes changes to schedule, location

CHARLOTTE

The party is relocating its kick-off event to Charlotte instead of Concord.

DNC officials said uptown Charlotte will now host the "CarolinaFest 2012" Labor Day event, instead of the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Organizers said it was just too "logistically challenging" to have the festival and convention events in separate locations.

In January, organizers announced they would shorten the convention to three days. It begins on Sept. 4 at the Time Warner Cable Arena and ends Sept. 6 with President Obama's acceptance speech at Bank of America Stadium.
