Lightning causes Wake County house fire

MORRISVILLE, N.C.

Firefighters responded to the home on Legendary Lane around 5:15 p.m. It took dozens of firefighters hours to completely extinguish the blaze.

Neighbors told ABC11 that the fire broke out after they saw a bolt of lightning during severe weather.

"It sounded like a freight train coming. We kind of just headed to the closet, and that's really it. Just that bolt of lightning took out the house," neighbor Sara Potter said.

Three people live at the home, including a small boy, but the family was not injured in the fire.

The family had just moved into the home weeks ago.

"I felt really sorry for the family there because I knew they just moved in about two months ago, and they just built the house too," neighbor Kayce Scharger said.

The American Red Cross said the family is staying with neighbors.
