In a June PPP poll, Romney held a two point advantage.
The poll also found that Romney's record at Bain Capital is a double-digit negative for him with North Carolina voters.
"Today's poll is the third poll in the last month showing that Mitt Romney is losing steam in a state that's key to his path to the Presidency," said Jamie Crain, a spokesperson for the North Carolina Democratic Party. "The Romney campaign and Romney-aligned SuperPACs have out spent the President in paid media yet the polls have him sliding in the wrong direction."
PPP also wanted to gauge how a ticket with Sen. Richard Burr as vice-president would fare in the Tar Heel State. They found President Obama would still hold the same 47 to 46 percent advantage.
