The mayor said the idea is to replace sorrow with solace and strength.
The city is teaming up with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, Activate Good, and several businesses for the events that including blood donations, hunger, training for disaster relief, home improvements, education, environmental protection and global orphans in a partnership called Activate Raleigh.
"Activate Raleigh will make the statement that through working together as a community for the common good, we can all have faith in a greater tomorrow," said McFarlane.
