It happened near Abercromby Drive and Yorktown Avenue in southern Durham around 2:30 p.m.
When police arrived on the scene they found 23-year-old Antoine Alston dead in the driver's seat of a car that had hit a tree and caught fire. Alston had been shot.
Police said a second male ran from the car to a nearby apartment complex. He was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound and released.
No charges have been filed at this time.
