Troopers said 41-year-old Ira Evans, of Henderson, was driving a 2007 Dodge Charger south on US1 in Middleburg around 10:30 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a car head-on.
The car Evans hit was a 1995 Mercedes driven by 22-year-old Derrick Burchette, of Warrenton. Burchette's 19-month-old daughter, Jaleah Griffin, was in a car seat and became trapped when the Mercedes overturned.
Griffin died of her injuries at the hospital. Burchette was treated for serious injuries at Duke Hospital and released Sunday.
Evans also underwent surgery at Duke, but an update on his condition was not available.
Troopers said charges are pending.
