While responding to the disturbance call, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle on the side of London Church Road.
The suspect, who was later identified as 29-year-old Julius Tyrone Lucas, fired at the officers. One officer returned fire as Lucas fled on foot. No officers were injured.
A short time later, officers said they heard a single gunshot and found Lucas dead behind a warehouse.
The State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident.
