Fayetteville woman blames city for flooded yard

FAYETTEVILLE

However, Teresa Ciszek said the flood was not so much from the rain as it was because someone wasn't doing their job.

A powerful summer storm pounded Fayetteville and Cumberland County with torrents of rain.

There were some flooded streets, storm drains and streams.

Hybart Branch Creek runs through Ciszek's neighborhood and behind her backyard.

She said flooding hasn't been a big problem in her backyard since the city put in flood gates downstream on Mirror Lake several years ago.

The problem is that the gates have to manually opened by someone from the city and Ciszek said that person didn't do their job.

Ciszek says the water covered about 75 percent of her backyard.

Ciszeck called the city and said officials apologized for not getting the flood gates opened in time. She understood saying mistakes happen. She just hopes it doesn't happen again.
