Man charged in Hoke County double murder

RAEFORD, N.C.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the hallway and barely breathing, with what appeared to be multiple gunshots to the torso area.

Deputies searched the house and found a man hiding in a bedroom. The man was later identified as  33-year-old Shawn McCoy, of Raeford.

After McKoy was secured by deputies, officials found an unresponsive female on the bathroom floor. Lorene Torrens had also been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Travis Blue, the first victim of the shooting, was later pronounced dead at Cape Fear Medical Emergency Facility. Investigators said both victims were shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun.

Officers have retrieved the weapon, and Shawn McKoy has been charged with two counts of first degree murder. He is being held at the Hoke County Detention Center without bond.

Neighbors said Torrens lived in the mobile home with her 8-year-old daughter, who was not home at the time of the murders.

They also said Torrens and Blue had been seeing each other, but that McKoy was her ex-boyfriend. Officials have yet to confirm those details.
