Four people were riding in a truck on Stephenson Road when it crossed the center lane, side swiping a Uhaul truck. The truck then flipped and two passengers were ejected. Officials said 26-year-old Francisco Gonzales and 30-year-old Ramiro Arroyo-Rosales, both of Apex, were killed. Neither were wearing seatbelts.
The Highway Patrol told ABC11 one person inside the truck tried to flee the scene, but officials were able to arrest him nearby.
Two of the passengers inside the truck were killed and another was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Uhaul truck was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Nearby residents said the road is dangerous and that this is not the first time they have witnessed accidents there.
"With the two curves a lot of cars lose control here. They do come through real fast, and I see a lot of accidents," Woodard-Nixon said. "But this looks bad. We had police and police dogs. It was shocking."
Troopers said the truck was speeding before it crashed and that alcohol was a factor in the collision. Charges are pending.
