Severe storms strike Triangle

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C.

There has not been any damage reported, according to officials.

Halifax County was under a tornado warning Sunday morning, but it has since expired.

In Enfield, the storms toppled trees and downed power lines in some neighborhoods. Residents are left to clean up the mess after severe storms rolled through the area Sunday morning.

"It was almost like a hurricane. The wind and the rain were beating down and my son heard trees popping," resident Wanda Sykes said. "We all huddled together. We just waited in the kitchen for it to pass, and then when we came out is when we saw the damage."

Many roadways in Durham County were flooded after the storms dumped large amounts of rain. Emergency crews responded to a car that flipped into a ditch on the Durham Freeway, while University and Academy Roads were flooded.
