Cary teens, adult charged with prostitution

CARY, N.C.

Police said the incident happened at the Red Roof Inn on Walnut Street in Cary on August 14.

Both teens, 18-year-old Briana Saliani and 17-year-old Brooklyn Sekel, as well as 41-year-old Dharmender Rai, of Raleigh, are charged in connection with the incident. Saliani and Rai are charged with misdemeanor solicitation of prostitution, while Sekel is charged with misdemeanor prostitution.

Sekel is enrolled at Cary High School, according to Wake County Public Schools.

Saliani's mother told ABC11 that her daughter, who is a cosmetology student, wasn't inside the motel room whenever the incident occurred.

A tip lead police to the hotel.

"The clerk working the night in question gave us a call. He actually thought there could be prostitution going on in the motel. So we got a call, the officers go out and knock on the door, and the people inside were honest and open and told us that's exactly what they were doing," Cary Police Capt. Don Hamilton said.

Investigators said this was not a case of human trafficking or a highly organized prostitution ring.

"It is something we do pay attention to," said Hamilton. "We work with other agencies -- federal departments -- and we are keen to look for those things but in this case we don't believe that's the case."

All three charged have court dates in October.
