It happened within 24 hours of being placed in front of the UNC Visitors Center in Chapel Hill.
The cow called "Alexander Moo-lian Bow-vine" was designed by UNC Alumnus and famed fashion designer, Alexander Julian, in the style of his own clothing line. The cow was stripped of his oversized bowtie late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
The cow itself was valued at $20,000 as a whole.
The N.C. Children's Hospital, which will benefit from an auction of the cows, does not want to press charges against the vandals. They only want to ensure the bowtie is returned unharmed to be reattached to the cow.
The hospital has requested that the bowtie be returned to the Children's Hospital information desk by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 30.
