Investigators said 22-year-old Samuel Milton Jr. was one of three people armed with handguns who got into an altercation around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Aftonshire Drive and Tangora Lane.
Two other men allegedly involved were also shot and taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center by friends.
Police said their names would be released once they were positively identified.
