The incident happened on Bear Cat Way at a business called Fiddes-USA. The company makes products used for polishing and waxing wood.
Officials said there was not a fire, but glass was broken. Officals said the explosion happened as a result of the improper mixing of chemicals used in food preparation.
The man was conscious and was taken to Duke Hospital, but his condition is unknown.
