The United Way of the Greater Triangle is hosting the CEO Sleepout Thursday night in Durham.
Twenty-five CEOs and community leaders raised money and will sleep outside in either cardboard, a blanket, a box, or a sleeping bag depending on how much each raised.
"It's the awareness is really what we're going for," said Jim Green, of the United Way of Greater Triangle.
During the overnight outing, participants will make hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Durham Rescue Mission.
The sandwiches will nourish a handful of the area's 203,000 people now in poverty.
The United Way of the Greater Triangle's new CEO Mack Koonce will speak to participants Friday morning.
The campout is taking place in front of the DPAC, bordered by the Durham County jail and the railroad tracks.
