Downed power lines, trees block I-85

DURHAM, N.C.

Traffic was diverted in both directions by way of exit and on-ramps that service the highway.

Officials said a transformer blew on W. Club Boulevard, which led to five power poles being uprooted and falling to the ground. The power lines that connected those poles also stretched across both the north and southbound lanes of Interstate 85.

There were no estimates on how many people were without power. The highway reopened around 7:15 p.m.
