Investigation of hazing allegations at NCCU

DURHAM, N.C.

In a statement, NCCU said it has a "zero-tolerance policy on hazing."

The suspension effective Sept. 10 affects the drum line of the Marching Sound Machine band.

The school did not elaborate on what kind of hazing activity was suspected.

NCCU's drum line is well known for its synchronized movements with their percussion instruments. In addition to regular performances at football games, the band performed at the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.

The band was expected to appear at this Saturday's "Bull City Gridiron Classic" game against Duke at Wallace Wade Stadium Saturday without the drum section.

NCCU formed a task force in 2011 to look into hazing issues following the death of a drum major at Florida A&M University.
