Woman suspected of open house thefts

RALEIGH

Mary Catherine Louks is charged in four theft cases, including allegedly taking a ring valued at $2,000.

Real estate agent Frank DeRonja said he was immediately suspicious of Louks when she arrived at an open house event.

He told ABC11 she slipped upstairs when he open the door for other visitors.

"Couldn't be impolite, so I spent a little bit of time with them and went up the steps.  I stuck my head around the corner, and she had a dresser drawer open, had her hand in the dresser drawer," he recalled.

DeRonja called police who said Louks gave them a fake name. She was charged with obstruction, and then detectives started checking pawn shops - eventually linking her to thefts.

Now, Cary police say Louks is a person of interest in a case there.
