Fundraiser held on slain UNC student's birthday

DURHAM, N.C.

The UNC sophomore was murdered in her off-campus apartment over two weeks ago.

While police have said they don't believe the murder was a random act, they've said little else, and there have been no arrests.  Her family told ABC11 that the student suffered blunt force trauma to her head during a violent attack.

In honor of her birthday, Red Robin in Durham is holding a fundraiser to raise money for the scholarship fund established in her name. Fifteen percent of Red Robin's proceeds Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. will go towards the scholarship.

Hedgepeth worked at the restaurant in addition to being a full-time student at UNC Chapel Hill.

The Faith Hedgepeth scholarship will help send an American-Indian female to any college of her choosing.
