Right now, the Sheriff's Department isn't releasing specific details of the incident to protect the identity of the victim, but they want the public and residents in Gray's Creek to be on the alert.
The attack happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday around the intersection Rosalin Farm and John McMillian Roads.
A young woman told deputies she was riding her bicycle when a man in a car drove up and attacked her. She was able to fight off the attack and escape. She was hurt but her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
The attacker is described as a man driving a black four-door vehicle, believed to be similar to a Toyota Camry or Hyundai Sonata.
The incident has residents in the area shaken.
"It makes you nervous, especially when you got kids," said Ray Keyton, who lives on Rosalin Farm Road. "You know, it's just gotten scary out here. You got more and more people moving into the area and you just don't know whose moving in."
Deputies don't know if the suspect is from the area or not.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, call 911 or the Watch Commander at (910) 323-1500.
