911 calls released in dog mauling case

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C.

Mary Jo Hunt, 54, was killed Tuesday afternoon while trying to break up a dog fight in her yard.

When police arrived, they found Hunt dead on the scene with several dogs on top of her.

Investigators said the dogs were attacking a small dog when Hunt tried to break up the fight with a rake and the dogs turned on her.

Caller:  "(unintelligible) and the dogs about killed her."

Dispatcher:  "Oh my God!"

Caller:  "I don't know what to do to get the dogs off of her."

Dispatcher:  "Well, you don't go -- don't you try to go out there."

Caller:  "They almost took her arm off. Them dogs've about killed her."

Caller:  "You need to send somebody with reinforcements. Okay, 'cuz an ambulance gets out here. They can't get her out."

Caller:  "You need somebody out there now. I ain't lyin'!"

Seven pit bulls that were involved in the attack were euthanized Friday. Two remaining dogs will continue to be assessed and remain in isolation. A pug was found dead in the yard on the day of the attack.
