Operation Stop Arm will target drivers passing stopped school buses loading or unloading children.
Trooper Quintin Stanton said the Highway Patrol will be heavily patrolling bus stops, school zones, and anywhere school buses are.
The week of extra patrols comes three years after 6-year-old Ashley Ramos- Hernandez was struck and killed while getting off a school bus in Raleigh. A woman was later charged with illegally passing the bus.
Passing a stopped school bus can be a five-point violation on a driver's license and up to $200 in fines.
Some buses also now have outside cameras that record video that can be used to find and prosecute drivers, according to authorities.
