Early voting parade encourages and educates

DURHAM

A non-partisan group set up the event to help people who couldn't get away for early voting last week. "Parent's lives are busy and we wanted to make sure we could find a way that they could involve their children and avoid long lines on Election Day", organizer Beth Messersmith said.

Before the parade began, children had a chance to cast their own ballots at the county library in a voting activity.

Organizers hope the children who participated will remember the excitement of the day and head to the polls when they are eligible to vote themselves.
