Family of accident victim mourning another loss

DURHAM, N.C.

Rocky Watson said he lost a cousin and a friend when Rodney Watson was thrown from his motorcycle after he crashed into the back of a Jeep on NC-55 at Dakota Street just after midnight.

"He always looked out for me," Rocky Watson said. "We always looked out for each other. I've been going through a pretty rough time this past year, and he has as well."

The pair had been living together in Hillsborough for the past five months after Rocky's 74-year-old father, Donnie Watson, was murdered in his Durham home back in July.

"Sometimes I start asking God, 'How much more can you stack on,'" Rocky Watson said.

On Sunday, Rodney and Rocky were supposed to ride together in a memorial bike ride for Donnie Watson. Instead, Rocky had to ride without him, passing the spot where Rodney was killed just hours earlier.

"Thinking about him, thinking about my dad -- what it was for," he said. "We actually, on the way to the last stop, we actually rode by the actual spot where he was a killed and stopped briefly."

So far, police have not released the identity of the driver of the vehicle Rodney struck.
